Ohio Amish Country Map with Hand Lettered Numbering
I created an Ohio Amish Country map featuring hand-lettered numbering for Country Magazine.
If you'd asked me before I started this project “Can tourists visit where the Amish live?” my answer would have been a resounding “NO!”. (Honestly, I thought the community was so private that you could only experience how they live in books or documentaries).
It's a common misunderstanding… and that's precisely why this community decided to send an illustrated and hand lettered 'Outsiders Welcome!' message through the pages of a magazine.
Shifting Perceptions with a Splash of Colour
This map aims to spark excitement and curiosity about this often-overlooked destination, inviting tourists to explore the rich culture and scenic landscapes of Ohio's Amish communities.
The design process involved crafting a vibrant, living puzzle that reflects the warmth and authenticity of the Amish way of life. I incorporated elements such as rolling hills, red barns, horse-drawn buggies, and traditional attire, all brought to life with my signature vintage textures and eclectic hand lettering. The hand lettered numbering system not only adds a personal touch but also guides readers effortlessly through the map's features. Think mix-and-match numbers that look fun but also direct the audience to further reading… as easy as 1-2-3!
Visual Language and Emotional Resonance
This project highlights how illustration can engage curious readers who appreciate well-crafted content and seek to understand cultural nuances. By reshaping perceptions and inviting discovery, the Ohio Amish Country map with hand-lettered numbering acts as both an informative guide and an artistic piece that connects with its audience.
