Norwegian’s Alaska Destination Guide Illustration

For this project, the client, Norwegian Cruise Line aimed to provide their passengers with a visual storytelling keepsake of their Alaskan voyage. The outcome was Norwegian’s Alaska destination guide illustration, which doubled as a souvenir poster. By incorporating layers of adventure and hidden gems, the Alaska destination guide encourages exploration beyond the obvious.

Balancing Fun and Function

One of the key aspects of this project was ensuring that the map was as vibrant and fun as the journey itself! The destination guide needed to be filled with captivating detail while remaining visually digestible. My approach therefore was to keep the details accurate enough to interest (especially for the wildlife legend) while maintaining a style that was energetic and free. My lettering style also strikes the balance between the fun and functional outcome desired by the client. My use of bold colour palettes and vintage textures, enhancing the map's visual appeal.

My geeky love for research also helped me along - believe me, no two Glaciers are the same! I took care to convey the uniqueness of each and every destination.

The Versatility of Digital Collage

My digital collage approach allowed me to combine textures, forms, and colours to depict the abstract beauty of natural wonders, from the Northern Lights to snowy peaks and icy glaciers. The same approach playfully adapting to the contrasting man-made scenes and cultural symbols which were integrated throughout. This method allowed for a dynamic representation of Alaska's landscapes and heritage, making the illustration informative, visually captivating and well worth taking home!
